It is striking how small level of knowledge characterizing Trumps positions. Seen from Sonderborg, South-west of Denmark we see Trump and the US government is conclusive before looking for premises. This lack of simple logical thinking. Strictlly spoken it seems thar “the uist have” idea just comes from Trumps look at a map of the northeren hemispehere.
Have you ever heard Rubio, Miller and Trump mention anything about inuit culture? It seems as if the only position has to do with geopolitics. A position of this sort is strictly colonialism
I have read no US governmental severe interest in the Greenlander’s conceptions, understanding. However, the Trump government has opened an US office in Nuuk, Greenland. The Greenlandiv opposition to USA seems very strong. The approach seems to meet the challenge: How to persuade inuit to a conclusion without the slightest relection or contradiction.
Why is US Press under Trump so silent?

Facadekunst Nuuk 2017
Secondly. do not mix up this with the ongoing decolonization process between Greenland and Denmark.
I have written many articles on that before, eg. ths: https://www.aftenposteninnsikt.no/europa/den-velsignede-danske-kolonitid As former colonialpower, there is a hars trend among Danes to ignore Inuit culture at feeling Danish and European ways and traditions as more “civilized” and thus this ways as more refined and relevant. This kund of adultery is being challenged by the actual situation.
USA supports “an independent Greenland” ??

Mette Frederiksen
USA’s spokesperson said Tyesday 6th that USA wukk support an independant Greenland . In my interpretation, this reminds of “free association with USA”, just like eg Puero Rico. Maybe someone has observed that while Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is speaking og “Kingdom of Denmark“, i.e. “Rigsfællesskabet” consisting of Denmark, The Faroe Island and Greenland, the keyword in Greenland is indpendendence
It seems more relevant for US and trump to try to depen this ever developing differential veiw towards greater independence between Greenland and Denmark. This happens as Greenland’s economy is weakening. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/06/greenland-economy-facing-major-challenges-amid-trump-takeover-push.html
However, even though som inuit will sympathize with this initiative, there seems to my Danish eyes to be a rather strong relationship between Geenland and Denmark. In spite of so much. The inuit impatience and through many years acxumalted frustration with Denmark is a fact. But it is under development. Too slow, many would say.. To understand this, it might be a way to read https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7829/j.ctt1d4txq4 . Followinf Peter Burkes book on hybridization, Greenlandic dulture exists in a melting pot between original inuit and western culture. No one is purely Greenlandic. She is also into some degree Danish minded. This cannot just be taken over by Trump.
Creenlands economy is weakening
Into some degree, Greenlands economy is suffering bacuase of a demographic development. Fewer at wark, more elderlly· Denmark has through the years supported Greenlands economy with about 20 % of the GDP. May be it is time for Government of Denmark to increase funding?
